The NBA draft is only 12 days away, Thursday June 28th . Where will the UK crew land? Mock drafts tend to be as accurate as mock ncaa tourney brackets, highly unpredictable since teams take players based upon needs not just who the expert see as the "best" player. Then throw in the always creative decision of drafting some foreign player that no one has heard of and ends up staying in Europe for years to come. Then lastly throw in trades...I always wonder if the player has to give back his first hat once drafted given a hat and then traded elsewhere.
Never the less here is the latest 10 mock picks for the UK crew. Will Davis try to copy someone who found out about their surprise party and when announced as the #1 pick put on a shock face? I can picture him practicing his face in the mirror.
Will MKG land alongside Wall? Will any other player be drafted by a team that has other UK players? How far will Jones fall or climb depending on how you want to look at it?
Will Miller be selected late in the 1st round in a surprise way like Orton was. If so UK will break its own 1st round record by having 6 players drafted in the 1st round. Of course beating out two years ago when the 1st round saw: Wall, Cousins, Patterson, Bledsoe, and Orton. Either way UK will tie their own record, which would be a record in itself...the only program to have two classes to do this. So if any other school does have five first round draft picks, we as UK fans can still claim dominance.
Will there be any player who surprising is picked earlier than expected or falls way down and they keep showing his face when deep inside he wants to throw something? Barnes may be taken at #2 to go to the Bobcats. Many would claim the Bobcats as dumb for this but if there was a NBA team that wasn't that great in Lexington, fill the seats by loading up on UK players when you get the chance. This would keep the seats filled. The Bobcats may try to trade down to get Barnes and be able to get something else out of the deal for taking a later pick.
I don't know about you but the New Jersey crowd has a lot to live up to. The pro Knicks crowd always booed their programs choices and the close ups of the crazed fan with the shock face will be missed if not in the attendance.
To the 10 mock drafts in no particular order of previous accuracy or the one I like the most:
#1 NBADraft.net:
#1 Davis-New Orleans
#5 MKG-Sacremento-can't see him falling this far but a Cousins/MKG would be sweet
#16 Teague-Houston-the Rockets do tend to like UK guys
#17 Jones-Dallas-if Jones falls this far his draft stock didn't improve much from last year but he does have a ring to show for it...
#25 Lamb-Memphis-I don't know if this would be smart, those Memphis fans have a thing against UK guys for some reason...
#42 Miller-Milwaukee-so basically NBADraft isn't given much stock in UK landing 6 in the 1st round.
#2 NBA.com
#1 Davis-New Orleans-let me show my shocked face!
#4 MKG-Cleveland-it would be cool for him to play alongside Lebron, oh wait...so who plays for the Cavs now? Yeah, I don't know either.
#17 Jones-Dallas-wow both so far pick Jones to fall to 17...
#28 Teague-Oklahoma City-would be set to play back up like Bledsoe behind Paul, don't like it.
They did not list a 2nd round but notably absent is Lamb and Miller. Is it possible that we don't at least tie Wall's class with 5? Don't see Lamb not being selected but you never know...
#3 HoopsHype.com
#1 Davis-New Orleans-yawn
#4 MKG-Cleveland-at least he will play alongside Lebron, oh I already told that joke...nevermind.
#16 Teague-Houston-another site projecting Houston to take a UK player
#17 Jones-Dallas-three in a row pick Jones here...wow...
#25 Lamb-Memphis-2 out of 3 picking Lamb here, my point still stands on UK players to Memphis.
They did not list a 2nd round either and once again Miller is not listed 1st round...0-3 so far.
#4 NBA Draft Room
#1 Davis-New Orleans-I've got nothing, of course saying that is something...so there you go.
#2 MKG-Charlotte-although getting top 2 picks sounds cool, I would prefer to see him with Wall at #3
#20 Jones-Denver-what happened to Dallas??? They must not have gotten the memo. That would be a steal for Denver.
#25 Teague-Memphis-3 out of 4 picking a UK player here, my point still stands!
#30 Lamb-Golden State-well it was nice knowing you Lamb. I don't think I've seen a Warrior highlight since 2001. They still have a team? Granted I don't watch a lot of NBA.
#53 Miller-L.A. Clippers-ouch...another site saying not a chance for UK with 6.
#5 Walterfootball.com (not sure how much stock we should take in a site with football in its title...)
#1 Davis-New Orleans they at least got this one right
#3 MKG-Washington Bullets-yes they said he will go to the Bullets. MKG and 7'7 George Muresan will dominate!
#20 Teague-Denver-Teague before Jones? Nahhh
#21 Jones-Boston-would be cool to see Jones as a Celtic, not so cool to see him fall that low though.
#26-Lamb-Indiana-I'm sure the Hoosier fans would love that choice.
#36-Miller-Sacremento-not the 1st round but this is the closest to the 1st round I've seen.
#6 CBS Sports-Jeff Goodman
#1 Davis-New Orleans
#3 MKG-Washington-make it happen!
#17-Jones-Dallas-4 out of 6 at this spot
#20-Teague-Denver-2nd time picked here. Sounds about right to me.
#25-Lamb-Memphis-4 out of 6 picking a UK player here...
No 2nd round listed, once again no Miller in the 1st round
#7 CBS Sports-Matt Moore
#1 Davis-New Orleans
#3 MKG-Washington
#12 Jones-Milwaukee-highest Jones has been projected, hope it happens
#25 Teague-Memphis-5 out of 7 picking a UK player to Memphis...I'm clearly in the minority on this one.
#29-Lamb-Chicago-would love to see Lamb here, play alongside Rose.
No 2nd round listed, once again no Miller in the 1st round-0-7.
#8 Y! Sports/DraftExpress
#1 Davis-New Orleans-8-8 and so it is written...
#3 MKG-Washington-4-8 have him hear now
#17 Jones-Dallas-5 out 7 at this spot...
#25 Teague-Memphis-really? That is 6-8 for UK players at this spot.
No 2nd round listed, what no Lamb??? You are dead to me. Miller 0-8.
#9 The Hoops Report
#1 Davis-New Orleans
#4 MKG-Cleveland...stop me if you've heard this one...at least he will be playing with...oh...ok...
#10 Jones-New Orleans-now wouldn't that be cool to see Davis and Jones together. Might end up being a tease if it does happen, some believe the Hornets will deal this pick.
#21 Lamb-Boston-would be a good fit to fill in for aging Ray Allen
#26 Teague-Indiana-what no Memphis???
#38 Miller-Denver-pretty high for him, still 0-9 for the 1st round
#10 InsideHoops.com
#1 Davis-New Orleans
#3 MKG-Washington-5-10
#21 Jones-Boston-3rd mock draft to select a UK player here
#26 Teague-Indiana-3rd mock draft to select a UK player here
#27 Lamb-Heat-now that is a new one. Lamb would be set to potentially win a college ring and then an NBA ring. I wonder how often that has occurred?
No 2nd round listed, Miller 0-10.
So which one do you believe will get the most right with the UK players? We will see very soon and I will rank these 10 from right on to not even close once the picks are selected.
