We are already in waiting for the NBA to make a 2 and through rule over the 1 and done rule. This would allow us to have the elite top guys for two years, taking away the freshman struggles issue at UK year in and year out.
Now the no more testing the waters rule has been put into place. Players can not longer do what Knight, Jones and Liggins are doing by testing the waters and then having the option to come back. This has been a headache for coaches, as they are continuing to recruit right now and not knowing if they have room to add and recruits don't know if they want to go to a school when they don't know what situation they are putting themselves in.
This is something that helps UK out more than anyone else. Who is it that year in and year out will have a ton of guys at least testing the waters? Leaving Cal in question on if he needs to reload or celebrate what he has coming back. Now if the two and through rule is approved, most of Cal's recruits will decide to deck after the second year but there will be some guys who would go as well to test the waters on top of that but likely to come back. Now Cal doesn't have to worry about these guys as they are likely to not flirt with this and come back for another year.
Yes the negative side is some players will go into the NBA draft that shouldn't be going but under Cal they will have plenty of information and insight on if they should go or not. If anyone leaves earlier then they should at UK that will be on them. We are talking about a player who was going to go no matter what. Players that just a see a dark hole and don't know if they should go or not will likely play it safe and come back unless they are just sick of college.
Overall these two rules are a great situation for Coach Cal. They are making his job much easier and less stress on us UK fans as we will have a better outlook on what the next season will look like.
