UK has pushed the appeals committee to view the NCAA's findings on the situation. Which basically means UK agree with what the NCAA found just not their decision to deem him ineligible, will help Kanter's case, not hurt it. It is always harder to dispute their findings.
The NCAA has apparently spoken to the appeals committee, stating they believe Kanter's family did what they should have done and still by the rules should have been ruled ineligible, which is why they ruled him as such.
The NCAA doesn't have a lot of wiggle room on ruling players eligible when the written rules would say otherwise. It is the responsibility of the appeals committe to analyze the situation, use common sense and then if needed push the NCAA to adjust rules that make more sense.
The NCAA has spoke with the appeals committee on their plan of adjusting the current rules, that wil allow players like Kanter to be eligible.
Now does this mean the appeals committee listens? No not at all. We would like to think so, UK is optimistic but the appeals committee can do what they want at this point.
There are lots of possibilities. They could require him to sit the minimum 9 games like Selby is doing. If that is the case and the Canadian games and the most recent exhibition games do not count, then he will be cleared to play his first game on 12/18 against Miss. Valley St. This is the most optimistic scenario possible.
Now they could say he has to sit out the rest of the season or even say yes the rule needs to be changed but Kanter is going to be judged based upon the current rules and deem him ineligible forever...
You have to like the fact that the NCAA is actually on our side on this...but it doesn't make anything final.
We should know by Friday, the expected 48 hours will be over. O, but they did say they plan to move swiftly on this. Of course there is no requirement to announce anything by this time. We shall see...
