One could argue it is like leaving a job, it is not your responsibility to make sure every lose end is finished before moving on.
Personally I do not see playing for UK is like a job that you leave. When you suit up for UK, you are part of a elite family and you should always take care of your family. 20 years from now Wall and company will be wlecomed at UK because if you suit up for UK, you are not a part of UK just for your time as a player but for life.
In other news:
-Cal stated today that Jones called him and said he made a mistake. Cal noted that he doesn't typically recruit kids who are committed elsewhere but when a kid is telling you they made a mistake and want to come to UK then how do you tell him no.
-Junior Justin Knox former star for Alabama is transferring to UNC. He will likely not have to sit out since he is set to graduate this summer.
-Kadeem Jack is heading to prep school at South Kent. He was not offered by UK.
-Jeff Goodman is reporting it is basically a done deal with Payne.
If someone who is the number one draft pick and subsequently much more busy can finish his coursework - you would expect Orton could do the same. He has hurt himself by failing to take advantage of the education given to him by the University and then slapped the University, who graciously gave him a free ride, in the face. It is disappointing. I rooted for Daniel, just like all the cats. But, as Daniel has purposefully hurt the University who was so gracious to him, I won't continue to root for Daniel. I think he doesn't get it. He won't be a pro forever and alienating the fanbase means he won't get opportunities from the community like nearly all of the ex players get. Look at all our successful ex cats in the area - not everybody gets those opportunities and Daniel won't get those either. We take care of our own and by hurting our University, he is now likely on his own. The very least he could do is issue a public apology and he didn't.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I can see Orton arguing on when being compared to Wall is that Wall did not need to work hard to get drafted high, where maybe Orton did. If Orton was to make the lottery, maybe he felt he had to sacrifice class work to make that happen...who knows...
