Senior Night Doesn't Dissapoint, UK dismantles Georgia

#1 Kentucky takes care of business at senior night, dismantling Georgia 79-49.  UK improves to 29-1, 15-0 in SEC.  Most points scored against Georgia this season.  1 win away from 30. UK has never won 30 games in regular season play.  UK has now won 21 straight, longest win streak since 26 in 2002-2003 season.  UK continues their home win streak.

Cats showed that just expecting us to not hit threes isn’t something to hope on as UK went 15-27 (55.6%).  Most threes in one game since East Tennessee in the tournament two years ago.  Even Anthony Davis got into the action hitting his first collegiate three.  On a sad note, Davis eight straight double doubles came to an end as he ended with 9 points and 8 rebounds.  He did ask to come out on several occasions so Vargas could see more minutes.

Georgia’s three point shooting was not as hot as they only went 3-19 (15.8%).

Cats actually shot better from 3 than 2, as they only shot 13-30 (43%) from 2.

Other points for the Cats: Miller-17 (5-9 from three), Lamb-13 (3-6 from three), Kidd-Gilchrist-12, Jones-9, Wiltjer-9 (3-4 from three), Teague-8 (2-4 from three), and Vargas-2.

Donte Williams for Georgia tied Miller for most points with 17 but no other Georgia player scored in double figures.

UK shot 8-11 (72.7%) from the line.  The Bulldogs shot 8-10 (80%).

Cats won the rebound battle 36-28.  Kentucky had 16 assist to their 9. Blocks were about even, UK with 6 and Georgia with 5.

Not a whole lot of fouls as both teams ended with only 9 fouls and Vargas was the only player to receive his 3rd foul in the game.  Wiltjer was the only one for UK with 2 fouls.

Not a ton of turnovers either as UK had 7 to Georgia’s 6.

Miller and Vargas after the game:
Miller: It meant a lot to me to see my family here to support me and get to play with these players.
Vargas: I’m glad to be here, I appreciate Big Blue Nation giving me all their support.

Miller:  (on his picture with Delk as a kid) I really liked Kentucky and I really liked Delk, he was my favorite player and it was great to meet him.

(On Florida) Miller: We know it will be a great atmosphere and we just got to win the game.

Vargas: It will be my second senior night as I have some people coming.

Cal after the game:
Wow, we made 15 threes.  We normally make 5 ½.  10 times 3 is how much? 30.  We normally are better at layups and dunks but we can shoot threes.  We are the 1/3 from the bottom in shooting threes but we lead the league in shooting percentage.  I just don’t like to live and die by those.

What about 3 years without losing in this building? What? We are nine years short of the record.  It started with coach Rupp, what was he trying to do, win every game?  No wonder you guys expect to win everyone.
How many NBA players has Miller played with? Oh my gosh, think about that.  By the time he leaves here, he will have played with 15 NBA players, and then him, what?

I’m proud of Vargas.  He is on a team where there are a lot of good players.  Wiltjer I know he needs to play more but who do we put him in for? We can’t play 6 players.  The issue is, it isn’t Vargas is good but he is on a team with guys that are real good.  Vargas got exhausted because he hasn’t been able to play much.

We had seven guys with 8 or more points.  We have seven guys on our team that averaged 25 points a game in high school.  How easy would it be for them to say, I’m shooting the ball!

Davis could say, I’m the best player in the country, give me the ball but he doesn’t.

This is a team that flies down the court and only end with 7 turnovers.  We are playing with freshman and sophomores and Miller.

The question I have is what do you do to help us win if you are not scoring the ball.  You got to do something else to help us win if you are not making shots.

We have been practicing some without Davis in there.  Our guys need to be able to know how to play if Davis gets in foul trouble.  Other teams may try to go at him over and over until he gets 2 fouls.  We have played without Jones and Teague but how will we handle it with Davis out?

We are cutting down to practicing for 1 hour and 15 minutes.  We go hard in practice and get in 2 hours worth in this time.  Do I still need to work on their body? If so, then I haven’t done my job.

Sunday at Florida what do you do Tomorrow we will have film on this game, then some individual workout and then head down there.

You guys know that I’m not big on the tournament, but if we got to win it to get a good seed than that is fine.  Of course, last year we won the whole thing and we got the 4th 4th seed, so that didn’t help did it?
