#1 Cats cruise over #7 Florida 78-58. UK improves to 24-1, 10-0 in the SEC. UK now has a 2.5 game lead in the SEC. I just now had the chance to finish the game thanks to a late night at work followed up by my car breaking down on the way home and needing a tow. So I’m keep this one short tonight.
Florida came in expecting to be able to be the one shooting 3’s all night long. In the end UK had 9 and Florida only had 6. UK shooting 60% from behind the arc to Florida’s 22.2%. Many of Florida’s threes were desperation throws at the basket just trying to do what they had to do to attempt at a giant comeback, which of course failed.
The balance scoring for UK continues to be a tough element to prepare against. Tonight UK had 5 players with 9 or more points, 4 players with 12 or more points.
Kentucky points: Lamb-18 (4-5 from 3), Davis-16, Kidd-Gilchrist-13, Teague-12, Miller-9, Wiltjer-6 (2-2 from 3), and Jones-4.
Jones did not have a big offensive night and yet UK still rolled over Florida, not bad at all.
UK won the rebound battle 36-26. UK went 11-11 from the free throw line. A stat I didn’t notice and don’t remember the announcers keying in on.
Florida did well in turnovers with only 9 to our 13.
Overall a very impressive win for the Cats but not a time for the team to sit back and relax. They still have quite a tough road ahead of them and as Cal continues to say it is all about improvement for the bigger picture, how to handle teams in March.
Cats now take on Vandy on the road Saturday. Vandy is 16-7, 5-3 in the SEC. They are a very tough team at home thanks to their end zone bench and Stallings system of signals and whistling, something that throws off many teams to only see once a year at most.
