11:00am Miller Grove vs #4 St Anthony – Final Score #4 St Anthony 60 – Miller Grove 48
This game included #31 player in the country Tony Parker who has interest from Kentucky. They were facing 10-0 St Anthony team who has the #5 player in the country Kyle Anderson who is headed to UCLA. This was the type of game in which it was going to be hard for Tony Parker to do anything. Tony Parker continued to face double teams the entire game and for the most part he hardly even got the ball. He never got into a groove and finished the game 1/7 in field goal attempts with 4 of those shots being hook shots from too far out of the lane. He finished with 6 pts and 3 rebounds. He did go 4/5 from the free throw line.
My take: Tony Parker is the type of guy that is out of shape. He barely gets up and down the floor and I feel this would definitely be changed drastically once he got to the college level and had a strength coach and trainer. He doesn’t handle pressure well; he got trapped in double teams a few times and turned the ball over. He is the type of player if he doesn’t start the game well then the rest of the game will be off as well. He is the backup to Anthony Bennett which in my opinion will go to either Florida or Kentucky. After the game Tony Parker said that UCONN or Kentucky will get his final visit so I think this shows you that we really aren’t really going after this guy… I think we are all in with Bennett and if we don’t get him we will take Muhammed and Pollard.
1:00pm #24 Bishop Gorman vs #5 DeMatha Catholic – Final Score #24 BG 73 - #5 DC 65
This game included #1 overall player in 2012 class Shabazz Muhammed for Bishop Gorman against #5 DeMatha Catholic. In the first half it didn’t take long for Shabazz to show why he is the best player in the class of 2012. In the first half he shot 7/13 from the field and 4/5 from the free throw line to have 19 points, 1 Rebound, 1 Assist, 1 Block, and 1 Steal in the first half. He also played great defense the entire half to have #5 DeMatha trailing by 8 at half time.
In the second half Shabazz continued to show why he is the best player in the country. Towards the end of the game he started to be a bit winded because he does so much game to game, but to see how much heart this kid has he shows the sign of Michael Kidd Gilchrist in his ability to get to the basket and get to the free throw line. He has the WILL TO WIN also which I love. In the second half he shot 5/7 from the field and 8/9 from the free throw line for a total of 18 points, 4 Rebounds and 1 Steal.
His final stat line for the entire game was 37 Points, 5 Rebounds, 1 Assist, 1 Block, and 2 Steals. He had ZERO turnovers. To shoot 12/20 from the field and 12/14 from the free throw line is outstanding. If you haven’t seen him play you need to.
My take: Shabazz will be able to choose to play for any team he wants to. Obviously the schools that are the highest and finalists for his services are the UCLA, UNLV, and Kentucky, yes there are others on the list but realistically it will be one of those three. In my opinion I think it is down to UNLV and Kentucky with Kentucky being the clubhouse leader but there are still several months of recruiting to be done so this could all change. If you haven’t gotten to see him play you need to look up their schedule and catch a game when they are on ESPN because he is so athletic and fun to watch it makes my mouth water thinking about him in a Wildcat uniform. WOW HE IS AMAZING.
HIS INTERVIEW AFTER THE GAME WHEN ASKED WHO IS INVOLVED HE SAID KENTUCKY FIRST… It is always nice to be the first name out of someone’s mouth.
3:00pm #6 Findlay Prep vs #1 Simeon – Final Score #6 Findlay Prep 75 - #1 Simeon 50
This game was to include #7 Anthony Bennett for Findlay Prep against #1 overall player in 2013 Jabari Parker who plays for #1 Simeon. Unfortunately right before tip-off of this game they scratched Anthony Bennett from the lineup due to an injury. I really wanted to see how he played in front of John Calipari and how he would handle a team like Simeon which is so talented. It give me the ability to focus more on Jabari Parker who is considered the #1 player no matter what class you compare him with, but I beg to differ and I think Shabazz gives him a run for his money, now with that being said here was his stats.
In the first half Jabari Parker was 6/12 from the field and 2/2 from the free throw line. He finished with 15 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 1 turnover. He dominated the half on the glass, but a few of his shots were forced and it really hurt his team when they were already down. He is a very talented player though and does a little bit of everything. He is a big guy that can drain the three ball which is nice to have and this is what makes him the #1 player in his class.
In the second half Jabari Parker, Findlay Prep did a great job of guarding Jabari forcing him to take bad shots, and you could see him getting frustrated as he started to force some really bad shots. He never could get in a groove like he did in the first half and he finished the 2nd half with a stat line of 4/10 from the field and 1/2 from the free throw line finishing with 9 points, 3 Rebounds, 1 Assist and 2 Turnovers in the 2nd half. He just couldn’t get in the game because he was primary focus.
For the entire game his stats were 10/22 from the field goal which included 1/6 from three in that stat line, and also 3/4 from free throw line, 10 Rebounds, 2 Assists, 1 Steal, and 3 Turnovers. He had these stats and his team lost by 25. That is the difference between him and Shabazz in my opinion.
My take: I think he is a great player and I can see why he is the number 1 player in the Class of 2013 but he does have some flaws to his game which include taking bad shots at times, and I don’t see how people say he is definitely best player in any class because I would take Shabazz over him all day long because Shabazz has a motor and hustles no matter what, and also he doesn’t take bad shots.
