It is looking more and more like Izzo will be taking the Cavs job and the question is who will replace him. The latest rumor is the possibility of Bill Self heading to MSU. So why would Self do this when he seems set at Kansas?
1) It is quite possible the Big 12 will be no more and Kansas may get the raw deal in this. All this realignment has to do with football and the money involved with football and Kansas is not desired in this sport compared to other Big 12 teams like Texas and Oklahoma.
2) Michigan St. is a Nike school. Kansas is an Adidas school. There is an advantage to being involved with Nike.
3) Michigan's high school talent is much higher, which allows recruiting to be easier. You can get some top talent guys without leaving the state and go global with the rest of the spots. It will overall be easier for Self to fill a top talented team. He has shown he can do it at Kansas but it takes more effort on the recruiting trail.
Not saying this will happen but my guess is this is a top prospect for Michigan St and it isn't out of the question for it to happen.
