Boogie recorded his 18 double-double of the season against Tennessee on Feb. 27.
Yes, this means that Cousins has now achieved a double-double in 18 games out of 30. If you like percentages, that means Big Cuz double-doubles in 60% of his games.
There is currently 1 game remaining in regular SEC play for a total regular season of 31 games. Let's go ahead and assume that UK will at least reach the Finals of the SEC Tournament. That adds 3 games to bring our season total to 34 games. If Cousins continues to earn a double-double based on the total season average of 60% of his games, Cousins will now have either 20 or 21 double-doubles.
As much as I want to believe that UK will make the National Championship game, let's be humble and say UK only reaches the Elite 8. This adds 4 more games to our season and brings out total games played to 38. With the season average of 60%, Cousins will now likely have either 23 double-doubles.
Now, let's say we make it to the championship game and have 40 games on the season. Cousins would likely have 24 double-doubles on the season.
Why is this number so special? Simple. This would allow Boogie to move into 10th place ALL-TIME at UK for most career double-doubles... tied with Pat Riley(24). What makes Cousins obviously special is that he is the ONLY player on the Top 10 list that did it in one season! The all-time leader for double-doubles is Dan Issel with 64, but he did it over a span of 1967-70...3 seasons! If Cousins were to stay for 2 years and keep the rate of 60%... and accounting for a possible decline in the SEC and NCAA Tournament runs... let's say UK plays 38 games next year, Cousins would finish his 2nd season at UK with an estimated 46-47 career double-doubles... good for 3rd best all-time at UK for double-doubles! However, Big Cuz may not be back next year... so we'll settle for 10th all-time in a single season!
Now, let's also consider that Cousins production/efficiency with fouls and double-double has increased as the season progresses. Keep in mind that all of the above stat projections are at a minimum. Everything gets better as the season goes on. Boogie's number for the 2nd half of the season are MUCH better than the 1st half. If the 2nd half numbers continue, then Boogie could end up 8th all-time in double-doubles THIS year!
Awesome job Waitin, that is some good stats...I hope he comes back next year.
